About the Elders
Following the pattern of church leadership found in the New Testament, Churches of Christ have no headquarters or ruling counsel. Rather, the leadership of each local congregation is entrusted into the hands of faithful local members. The elders are men chosen from the congregation because of specific spiritual and moral qualifications. These men have the responsibility to "shepherd" the spiritual life of the congregation and individual Christians. This role includes administration, vision casting, staffing, setting doctrinal and moral standards, and mentoring individual Christians. At Hendersonville the elders represent the top level of authority, under God, in the congregation.
Scheduling an Appointment with The Elders
All church members and anyone with questions and concerns specific to the elders may schedule an appointment to meet with the elders (call the office to clarify what items are suitable for the eldership and which are suitable for the ministry staff) . The elders generally meet on Wednesday nights after evening service. Call the chairman of the eldership to discuss when you would like to meet, the general topic of your appointment, and how long you believe the meeting will take. Since the chairman position rotates, call the office for the current chairman's phone number or email: 615.824.6622.
Receiving a Visit from an Elder
From time to time a member, visitor, or attending individual or family may receive a visit from an elder. This may occur when a person is sick and desires prayers, or when an individual or family would like to place membership. If you would like to receive a visit, you may fill out the appropriate information on the visitor or member attendance card during a service, or you may call the office and leave your name and number for an elder to contact you: 615.824.6622.
Ministers are also available to meet these needs and can also be contacted through the office.
