How do I become a Christian?
“How do I become a Christian?” It’s a very important question. Our prayer is that this discussion will lead you towards making the most important decision of your life!
You think you’re a good person. You have always tried to do the best you can and do the right thing. Your friends would all say you’re a good person. Yet, even with all of the good, you still feel unsatisfied with your life.
Maybe you have looked for satisfaction in all of the wrong places. You have tried things that have only left you feeling more unsatisfied and empty – that something is missing from your life. There is something that can fill that void – GOD. You have tried lots of things on your own to make your life complete, but have found no answers. If that is the case – He is the answer!
Thankfully, God has given us a manual for life – the Bible. The words in the Bible are His words and contain specific, truthful instructions on how to live our lives – lives with hope, joy, love and meaning. He has the answers to the questions you have been searching for on your own.
You are here for a purpose. Your life has meaning. That’s not an accident. God created you and knows you better than you know yourself. He also knows what you need – a Savior.
We are separated from God because of sin. Sin is not a new concept. It has been around since the beginning of the world. But because of God’s great love for us, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live on earth, suffer punishment and die on a cross to pay for your sins. Three days later, He rose from the dead.
Jesus loves you and wants to have a personal relationship with you. But our sin separates us from Him:
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23
The most important decision you will make in your life will be to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Forgiveness and a relationship with God await you. This begins with repenting and turning away from your sins. Saying goodbye to your old life and beginning a new walk with Christ. This is a decision God wants everyone to make:
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance – 2 Peter 3:9
You may think that you need to fix things in your life or make things right before you can accept Christ. Many people feel that way, but it’s not true!
God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us – Romans 5:8
You are saved by the grace of God, not because you tried to get your life straight. God wants you to accept His gift of salvation because He loves you! You cannot earn your salvation…it is a free gift!
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast – Ephesians 2: 8-9
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life – John 3:16
Sin causes death, but because God sent His Son to die on the cross for our since, you can have the free gift of eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord – Romans 6:23
Jesus Christ is the only way to enter into a relationship with the Father.
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is not other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved – Acts 4:12
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
“How do I become a Christian?”
We’re glad you asked. God wrote the manual. Jesus Christ is the answer.
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” – Revelation 3:20
How to we enter into that relationship? Believe in Christ. Repent – turn away from your old life. Confess your willingness to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized into Christ.
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 2:38
“And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.” – Acts 22:16
…don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. – Romans 6:3,4
God is pleading. Jesus is knocking at the door. We are here to help. Why not make that great decision now?
