Jeremiah prophesied for some 40 years, a period that ended with the utter destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of the remnant into Babylon. This study looks at the life and teachings of the great prophet in the contexts of his relationship with God and his struggles within an increasingly decadent and godless culture.

Psalms |
Room 422 |
|
This class will concentrate on attempting to discover each writer’s meaning of a given psalm and its significance for the people of that time. For the modern reader, we recognize that the psalter is also part of the Christian Scriptures and is used in our wor-ship. Therefore, each psalm will be studied in the light of the fuller revelation brought to us by Jesus Christ.

Galatians |
Room 101 |
|
Paul’s letter to the Galatians is sometimes referred to as the Christian’s Charter of Freedom. Generally considered to have been written shortly after Paul’s return from his first missionary journey, it is thus one of his earliest extant letters. Its central thrust is the affirmation of salvation by God’s grace as opposed to salvation by works of the Law.

Luke |

The Gospel of Luke was written by a physician, a converted Gentile, a devoted friend of the Apostle Paul. Luke’s gospel provides us with a beautiful portrait of Jesus, the Son of God. In the book of Luke we will see the writings of a great historian guided by the Holy Spirit. Luke tells us he gathered information from eyewitnesses. Some have referred to this account of the life of our Lord as the most beautiful book in the world.

Room F |
|
This quarter will be a study of how Christians should trust God as we face the fears of different stages of life, such as fear of bad health, loss of a job, fear of terrorism, fear of broken marriage, fear of end of life, fear of doubting God, and other fears. We will start with Psalm 23 – “fear no evil” – and continue with examples of Peter walking on water while looking at Jesus, Jeremiah waiting on God, and other biblical examples of putting our trust in a loving God.

We have all heard and used various “catch phrases” or “slogans” to live by such as “Let go and let God;” “One day at a time;” “What goes around comes around;” “You reap what you sow;” “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth;” etc. Make a list and you will be surprised how many slogans run through our daily conversations. This study is heavy with class discussion combined with a large dose of Bible. Bring a list of your favorite slogans to class.

Nehemiah: Rebuilding the Walls |
Room 422 |
|
|
The book of Nehemiah is the story of Nehemiah’s leadership in returning to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of that great city. While it is one of the greatest of leadership ever penned, it also teaches us that with God’s help we can change ourselves and rebuild our broken lives into useful vessels. Whether leading others or ourselves, this is the story of the power of God to use people to make a difference. |
